ST. PETERSBURG, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Goals from Thomas Meunier and Eden Hazard saw Belgium to a 2-0 win over England in the World Cup play-off for third place in Saint Petersburg on Saturday and saw the Belgians to their best ever finish in a World Cup.
Both of the goals came on the break with Meunier scoring from close range following a Nacer Chadli cross, while Hazard's was a right footed finish as England were stretched in the closing minutes as they looked for an equalizing goal.
The English team worked hard for a goal in the second half but looked tired after playing 120 minutes on Wednesday and Belgium deserved the win which sees them finish third in the tournament.
