TEHRAN, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian ambassador to Britain on Sunday warned London not to escalate tensions with Tehran.
"The UK government should contain those domestic political forces who want to escalate existing tension between Iran and UK well beyond the issue of ships," Hamid Baeidinejad tweeted.
"This is quite dangerous and unwise at a sensitive time in the region," he noted.
On Friday, Iran's naval forces seized a British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz for what Iran called "failing to respect international maritime rules."
According to Western reports, the British government is considering plans to exert sanctions on Iran in response to the oil tanker seizure.
Iran "is firm and ready for different scenarios," Baeidinejad said.
